Sam Callis was born in Chichester, West Sussex, on November 21st 1973. He has an elder brother, called Ben.
Sam grew up in Haslemere, Surrey and attended Camelsdale Primary School, Midhurst Intermediate School and Midhurst Grammer School.
He trained as an actor at the London Academy Of Music and Dramatic Art. Graduating around 1995.
In his early acting career, he concentrated on stage and theater work, both here and in the States. In 2004 he appeared in Arms and The Man in New York as part of a UK tour. He played Stensgard in The League of Youth at Nottingham Playhouse, in May 2011. In 2012 he appeared in the Noel Coward play, Hay Fever at the Noel Coward Theater, and also as Jack Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest at Nottingham Playhouse.
Moving into Film and Television, in 2000 Sam's debut came when he starred as "Max" in a short called Shrink.
He got his big break in Television, in his role as fire-fighter "Adam Benjamin" in London's Burning, in 2001. It was also at this time, that he met his future wife, Osmin.
Sam has had various roles in TV over the years, which also include "Captain Patrick Fleming" in Ultimate Force, and "Doctor Mike Banner" in The Royal. His most famous role is as "Sergeant Callum Stone" in The Bill. He has made guest appearances in TV shows, Doctor Who, Holby City and Midsomer Murders. And more recently in an episode of Doctors.
Sam has branched into Directing. After The Bill was cancelled in 2010, he has directed a short film called Inside Run. The short starred his former The Bill co-star Andrew Lancel, as a prison officer and was shown at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2010.
Currently he and his brother, Ben, are directing Viking, a short film starring Sophie Thompson and Andrew Lancel.
Sam and his wife Osmin, have two small children.
